my starter misses sometimes, you hit the key and its as if it misses the ring gear? does this mean the ring gears buggered or what?
its a 6 volt starter in a 12 volt car
marcel
arent the no. of teeth different between 6 and 12 volt
it means the solenoid is not energising time for a rebuild
its still a 6v flywheel as well
marcel
i'd be sayin yeah the ring gear has lost he's teef......that is if you can hear the starter engaging and running, but arent gettin the engine crankin....otherwise see barls comment........
the best place to check the ring gear is from where the starter sit. the best way is to pull the starter and with a friend turning the motor over look at the ring gear thru the hole with the help of a torch. you can also test the starter while you have it out there by solving the problem. let us all know how you go
pulled the engine out again on the weekend and the ring gear is fine but the gear on the starter is ground away where it meets on the ring gear
can i just pull a gear of another starter?
marcel
yeah you should be able to just use another set of teeth for the starter, the trick is me lad gettin hold of 'em! will probably have to buy another
used or reco starter.....either that or rig up a mouse wheel and find yourself a mouse on roids, al la something like sean eadie hahaha...
maybe a hamster. talk to an auto elect cause i can remember from work at one replacing a gear but it was about 94 so im not 100% on it.
I have a few spare 6v starters which are no good so If its that easy I'll pull it off and change it hopefully?
