split kombi handbrake removal
geodon - December 22nd, 2002 at 04:49 PM

I've taken off both x-mas tree wire clips but the clevis pin at the bottom of the handbrake lever assembly won't move in either direction. Have I missed something?
I am about to introduce the pin to my oxy set & a rather large hammer!

I didn't realise how famous this one is! There is a ref to it on a resto in http://www.dropgates.com  & the last line on his suggested removal procedure is as follows "......then you can remove the pin but you have to discard the bus!"
Anyway mine's out. I heated NOT the pin but the housing for it at the bottom of the brake lever to a bright red with the oxy. Then I put the biggus dickus vice grip in my armory on the end of the pin and gently rocked it back & forth till the pin rotated. Then put the shaft of a screwdriver under the vice grip & lever the pin out- undamaged.
