this is probably very stupid.. but are these difficult to install?i got a pair from my cousin's fiance.. and im yet to try putting them on.

Its pretty easy, but when you're knocking out the pins from the original hinges, don't do what the instructions say and knock em out with a large nail and hammer unless you've let the hinge pins soak in WD40 overnight. Other wise you run the risk of ripping the whole hinge from your decklid like I did... alternativley, make a 'puller' or pusher and drive the pin out without placing pressure on the decklid metal...
i havbe no idea what that maeans, because the kit is second hand.. it dosent have any instructions.. thats why im lost
they just have 6 holes, 3 with screws in them
and 3 are larger more oval shaped holes
are you talking stand off kit or hood jax.

stand offs are a once only thing until you unbolt them
Hood jax are a REALLY wide H thingie that has 2 sats of R clip pins that allow you to go back to a normal set up in 30 secs

Install them on the decklid first then bolt them up. You mentioned about the locking meck not working. If you pull the decklid out all the way , i.e
adjusted right out on evry bolt hole the lower part of the deckild is thrown out of line and the hook part of the latch isn't long enough. Right?
2 Things you can do. Adjust it back in abit on the top of the decklid and eventually it will line up , with a push when youre locking it!
Or lengthen the latch. Thats what i'm doing. This way by lengthening the hook part of the latch you retain all the factory mounts etc and still use
the handle and lock. I'm lengthening mine a fair bit as i want to prop it out slightly on the bottom aswell . Easy job , make one if you can or
find a s/h latch , then find someone with a welder!

Too cold here at present to use them...

Snow on the mountains and a freezing wind off the mountains.... BBBRRRRRRRR...
Maybe I should have bought Hood Jax.... easier to use, once You get the old pins out....

There is....
1968-69 1500 Beetles do overheat in High temeratures because of No extra air vents in the engine lid...
Adding the Engine lid standoffs drops the temperature of the engine.....
I have added a 1976 Engine lid to My 1968 beetle which has the 4 sets of vents so I shouldn't really need stand offs, but with temps as high as 45C
last summer....
I believe I need all the extra air I can get....
Many people use them with the early model bodies and with 1600c engines which also suffer from over heating in the summer....

no-no with Mr Patrolman! Saying that i don't get my car wet and like the look and if Mr Partrolman catches me i'm bound to be in trouble for alot
more than just stand-offs!! Depends where you live aswell , Sydneys pretty dry and warm ( ish) so it's not too much of a problem. Anyway ho hum you

You can buy plastic seal kits in different colours...
Mick Motors has them, not expensive.. to fit over the coil and distributor..
These are supposed to waterproof the coil & distributor ...
as Minis had them back in the 60s as water could come thru the grill onto their coil etc....
or You could spray the coil etc with water displacing fluid... WD40 etc....
