Steering Damper - on a beetle
battybat - July 19th, 2004 at 04:09 PM

hi

is it normal to have a steering damper on a beetle? - hydraulic type one - like on a bike, from the beam to the steering arm

if it is unusual I'll get a pic taken and posted so it's more obvious what I mean

cheers

terry

Yes,
All Beetles after 1959>> had steering Dampers...
like a small shock absorber....
they make the steering smoother....

can yo retro fit one on a 54 then?

You would have to fit the tie rod from a model that had the steering damper... for one end and the other end just bolts onto the torsion bar tube... just weld a bracket...

A front swaybar would help with the handling too...

and they just clip onto the front suspension....
