inertia belt instilation in a bug
barls - July 25th, 2004 at 03:35 PM

this is the setup that ive had in all my dubs. it consists of a universal inertia belt kit and some plate. note this setup requires an engineers. the reel is bolted to a 90 degree bracket and mounted on the floor.

its bolted with high tensile bolts and has a steel plate under the car.

Does the inertia reel assembly get in the road of people trying to get into the back seat???

Where do You get Universal seat belts from.....??

[I know-- a universal seat belt dealer??:)]

I didn't know that You could buy universal inertia seat belts..

I have seen people fitting belts from other cars and having great difficulty.... getting to work correctly...

having done this to 4 different bugs now this is the easiest out there

Baja Wes - August 9th, 2004 at 08:16 AM

although it is hard to see in this pic, I have mine mounted so they are turned 90 degrees to yours. They use the L-bug mounting bracket, so is bolt in using factory parts and requires no approval. I think it is a neater install.

What seats are they from Wes? they look comfy! Were they hard to fit?

Anyone put inertias in a Ghia?

Thanks

Steve

Baja Wes - August 9th, 2004 at 10:49 AM

I think they are from a late honda prelude. They are very comfy, lumbar? and side width adjustment. $150 from mark gibbs panel house on brisbanes south side. Required a bit of welding to the original seat bases, which was all approved.

68AutoBug - May 20th, 2005 at 06:35 PM

those seats look like they are VERY comfy Wes......
I wouldn't mind a pair of those......

Were Your seats belts the universal type too Wes??
or from another car....
I have seen some of the enertia reel belts and they make it nearly impossible to get into the rear seat area....
Yours look good.....

are you talking to me mate or wes? cause if its me you can have a look at it yourself at the end of the month as i have a week off

Chewy - May 20th, 2005 at 10:49 PM

How much does it cost to get an engineers cert??
And what are the legalities if you dont?

barls - May 21st, 2005 at 09:20 AM

not sure how much cause i got the engine and a few other things done at the same time but it ended up being about $600. the legalities are if you are injured in a crash your insurance company could refuse to pay on the fact that you have an illegal fitting in your car

Chewy - May 22nd, 2005 at 10:52 PM

Thanks barls, anyone know what length innertia belts you need to buy to fit in a bug.
Cheers

barls - May 23rd, 2005 at 04:11 PM

thats cool mate

Yogie - May 24th, 2005 at 02:55 PM

I put inertia reels in from Repco. They screwed straight in to the factory seatbelt mounts so they don't need a certificate. I did however buy a 90 degree bracket from CIP1 to turn them out of the way a bit. Works well.

barls - May 25th, 2005 at 08:34 PM

looks good mate might have to look in to it

bugeyedbabe - May 25th, 2005 at 09:07 PM

yogie, can u put details up, so i know what im asking for when i go into the shops...otherwise i get strange looks when i say...i want sum fingies to go into that fingy....

Ur set up looks good, and I'd rather be putting in something that doesnt require drilling/welding/ fixing or altering of the body of the car. If u've seen me weld/drill/fix...u'd know why
