I got these results off the shop talk forums from the VW trends magazine dyno day with the DKP vw club in America.
They seem awefully high to me, what do u think? All the results are at the wheels!!!

These cars are normally aspirated:
Ben Salazar........2016cc w/ 162hp
Stephan Szantai...2276cc w/ 160hp
Jim Kurlinksi.......2213cc w/ 160hp
Don Bulitta........2007cc w/ 110hp
Matt Harris........2165cc w/ 137hp
Bill Mortimer......1776cc w/ 94hp & 94ft-lbs
John Rayburn......2332cc w/ 175hp & 160ft-lbs
Bill Schwimmer....2276cc w/ 177hp & 161ft-lbs
Greg Brinton.......2175cc w/ 175hp & 148ft-lbs
These cars are turboed:
Robert Hemphill....2276cc w/ 281hp & (didnt register torque)
Keith Greiner.....2443cc w/ 259hp & 213ft-lbs (these numbers were dynoed w/2 bent pushrods)
far out that is amazing!!!!!!!!!! wonder how reliable they are???????:bounce
cheers
rhys
heh sounds very nice...
i would like to know if they could have even run on the dyno below 3000 rpm?
Yeh amazing is the word!
I just can't beleive how high the No.s are, for example, my old 1835cc had only 71hp @ the wheels whereas that 1776 has 94!!! big difference!
& what about the turbo motors!! Holy crap! I think that Leigh Harris's turbo beetle put out 160hp @ the wheels & it's our fastest
street car down here!
I know that all dyno's are different, but these seem a little bit high.
It will be interesting to see our cars on the dyno come Febuary 1st in Silverwater.

It would be interesting to have more details. eg. what revs were these figures obtained at? I guess those kind of figures are obtainable, but I wonder
how drivable the cars are; they probably produce all their torque in a fairly high rev range.
Are they using the same standards we use over here? They may calculate their figures differently, and its quite probable that the tests are run under
optimal conditions - Pre-cooled intake air, etc. The kind of things that aren't possible under real driving conditions. For example, check out
Jake Raby's dyno room on his website.
The figures are interesting, that's for sure, I'd be interested to know more about the motors and the testing. I'd also like to see
figures for some stock motors to use as a baseline.
Jak u said it mate

This all makes Wes' (hopefully reliable) 200hp on tap seem pretty scary.
Yes I too would like to know what rev ranges these mill were banging at and a baseline stock figure to compare them to would be helpful.
Happy New Year to all :bounce.
hey
i remember seeing on shoptalkforums.com a little while ago a lad explaining what needs to be done to a 1776cc to get it do 13 secs down the 1/4 mile
ill see if i can find it!
cheers

They seem pretty high to me as well. Maybe these are flywheel figures?
But then on the other hand, those americans spend big bucks (like 10 grand) on motors.
Nah Pat , they are all on a rolling dyno, all the details will be in the next Vw trends, January issue that is due here soon. Would make an
interesting read I think.

Isnt Das Kliener Panzers THE most exclusive US VW club? Although the figures are damn high, these guys are like the cream of the crop. Can you guys
say "Unlimited funds and R&D".
Hutcho
They are pretty exclusive apparently, (I'm still waiting for them to except my application for my superbug to join their club LOL) but I think
that R & D is a strong term to use with these guys since they are pretty much running the same motor configurations & same car layouts that
they were 30 years ago, or thereabouts if u know what I mean.

Its all six ways , half a dozen to me Steve. Leighs is the fastest street registered car that I know of , full steel , full glass , full interior. We
could talk about it until the cows come home but I think that it's been covered before, I was only using Leigh as a comparison.

Do Americans measure HP differently to the Imperial SAE measure??? I have been reading this post and something in the back of my mind is telling me
that they do.
Could be wrong tho:o
there is that difference between SAE HP and DIN HP. with accesories and without
I know that the Europeans measure it in SP?? what it stands for I don't know but it's slightly different to HP. I thought the Americans had
the same measurements as us though?? Could be wrong?
Jak
Finally youve hit the nail on the head.
yanks measure it different to the rest of the world ( after all thers only one country isnt there)
take amnerican gallons vs imperial gallons.
Japanese measure it different as well.
had a search on google and found that:
ps is an abbreviation of Pferdestärke which translates from german into 'horsepower". only really used by the japanese these days. its
about the same as HP.
1hp = 1.01387ps; 1ps = 0.98632hp

I didn't think that this would get so technical. I think that the best thing to do is pick a dyno & keep using the same on eso that
improvements can be measured & be all relative.
Jak
yeah now thats the IDEa... providing that the joint you go to doesnt decide to UPGRADE there putors n equipement
this is the place you have used before isnt it ??? do you still have the old figures for your car ???
No unfortunantly Dave I've never used SAS before. The dyno that I've used before up here on the Coast doesn't operate anymore , I had
92hp @ the wheels with that dyno but that couldd mean anything anywhere else, & with all the upgrades that I'm making at the moment the
figure won't mean anything to me until next year when I do alittle more.
But at least it will be a baseline, espaecially compared to some 1600cc stockers that are coming too.
Jak
probally my POWERHOUSE 1500 sp as well.
Bannana Man thanks for that link. Very imformative.
It will be so good to have standard Cars to benchmark against, especially if they are tuned sweet / running well.
Was it torque figures that you cant get without more money ?
That would be very useful to know.
