Must be something in the water.....my VW is playing up too....
My 69 bug has started something which I hope is not leading to something bigger. On a cold start the car sounds like a chaff cutter and puffs out the
smoke ....it hasn't let out any smoke since I bought it a few months ago. Once it is warm it sounds great and there's no smoke. I'm concerned as
I know its the warming up period that is critical in an engine...
Any ideas? Could it be something as simple as timing, tune, running rich, etc? Or something sinister?
or my be something in the fuel???
(probably) fuel drining from carbie into cylinders, when you start the car it floods the plugs on the two cylinders that are lowest effectively making it run on only the other two cylinders, the smoke is the unburnt fuel blowing out, another possibility is that is is oil draining into the combustion chambers giving the same effect, both problems are not uncommon
Fuel quality I can fix as I'll try another servo.
If I have fuel leaking into the cylinders.....how would I fix this? Or even identify that this is the problem? Any further info?
the needle & seat in the foat bowl of carbie, BUT
first, do you park on a slope of any sort, this can cause the problem
If the choke is connected, try disconnecting it and see if it fixes the problem. Make sure it is in the open position though......
