ok our roadsters cv joint in the right rear has been grinding and growling for a while and on inspection has torn boot so i had planned to replace with a set of spare axle that i had freshly serviced but before i could do it the axle pooped itself(read large clunkk clunkk sound as turning corner) so stopped car and git towed home (45 dollars later)only to go to change over axles and find that all the hex heads have been rounded and some even snapped off and just left hanging out of transaxle. the unfortunate reality is that my shed is full of my current project and i am unable to get roadster in there to try to remedy situation (read grinding flats on to hexs to remove) and can't do it in the street so its off to the vw shop for a professional solution and serviced cv's and wheel bearings at the same time. The funny thing was when i went to move the car to somewhere the tow truck could get it easily the clunking noise had dissapeared and it seems to sound fine (although grinding still evident) I AM CONFUSED this learning about cars business is doing my head in.

:cry

If you only learn one thing about working on cars. Make it, repair it when you first hear the noise and it will save you money................:P
