Oil Pressure sender on Type 4

I'm after some suggestions on what people have done to mount an oil pressure sender on a type 4 motor.
I have a VDO sender which is too large to fit where the original pressure switch is, and I don't want to cut the tinware away to fit it there. The other option is to mount it on an extension, but then I'm worried about all that weight hanging off a small thread in aluminium.
I'm contemplating fitting a line in there and remote mounting the sender.
What have other people done?

Get a VDO T-bar extender. It is pretty much a 2 inch long copper rod with two senders holes in it.

VDO part number: 230-033

It screws into the oil pressure switch hole and has two openings on it. With this setup, both the oil pressure senders for the gauge and the idiot light can be used. Have one on my engine and its works great.

Andy, I've just fitted one to the Kombi, I used two straight extensions, blocked the side hole on the bottom one and the top one comes up high enough to clear the distributor, mounted the oil pressure sender off the side and the idiot light off the top. If you are worried about it breaking off, just attach a bracket to brace it. Personally I don't think you will need it though.

I already have two of the extenders you talk about, I was just worried about all that weight off that poor little aluminium thread. I also noticed that the extender is a parallel thread and not tapered which makes it sit ~3-4 threads deeper than the stock pressure switch, so I'm also concerned about it blocking the oil passage.
I'll have a look at yours on the week end Graham.

Hi

A freind of mine just did the same thing on his Kombi. He made up a flexible hose and mounted a VDO style hex extension near the rear of the oil breather and then earthed whole thing. So keep your extender, go to hydraulic shop and get a hose made up with male fitting to fit into the motor and a fitting on the other end to fit your extender.
