Autometer gauge to VDO sender compatibility?
2443TT - December 29th, 2002 at 05:12 PM

I'm going to upgrade to autometer gauges soon but need to know if the Autometer Oil Temp and Pressure gauges are compatible with VDO's senders?

The reason I ask is that the VDO temp senders you can get from the US are designed for the VW.

I have one that replaces my oil relief plug.

Regards,

Ian.

I have Autometer oil temp & pressure guages but I use the Autometer senders. I did use however a VDO oil pressure T-piece so that I could hook up the sender & the Autometer Pro light as well.
Hope this helps.
Never heard of the sender that u mention.
regards
Jak

I have tried VDO senders with Pricol, Smiths and Autometer Guages and they do not give accurte readings.
You need to use the Auto Meter units. As for the VDO being special for VW, I think you maybe getting confussed because they maybe advertised that way. You can get adapters to suit the AutoMeter units from any hose place if need be, just look at the treads

I have asked this one before, but I'll have another go.

Looking for a oil temp sender that is compatable with a 1956 Motometer Oil temp guage. The range is from 60 to 120 degrees C.

VDO sender will only make the guage work in reverse. Hot is cold and cold is hot , and not really accurate.

This gauge works in reverse to VDO unit. I.e. low resistance when cold & high when hot. The needle will move to cold side when the sender wire is grounded. And goes to hot side when power (ignition) is off.

Any ideas / suggestions anyone???

Give Smiths or Pricol a go as they send a VDO crazy when you hook em up so they may well be in reverse.
