G'day everyone
With my ride being 30 years old I am not expecting him to be perfect so was not surprised when going through one of those 5km speedo check thingos and
found that he had not registered anywhere near the 5 ks
Where can I go to get it checked.....or is it just not worth the bother ?
look in the ellow pages for instrument repairs and they will be able to help you.
The RACQ can check it for they usually have rollers at the main depot in Brisbane they charge $20.00 to do it.
Marc
i wouldnt bother
mine use to click over 4kms in the 5km test and would show 100km/hr when cruising next to my wife @ 100km/hr in a Ford that showed 100 km/hr.
Just make sure the bearing/dust cap where the cable joins isnt rounded out.
Try and test against an known good car - or just general traffic.
As long as you know the multipling factor it shoudnt be a worry
i would not bother to go and get it checked or even attempted to be fixed.... during manufacture the allowable tolerance is +/-10km/h. if you take it
to be checked they will check it against this allowable error... if you ask them to fix it they will either tell you honestly not to worry about it or
they will rip you off and still return a speedo with an accuracy of +/- 10km/h. you can have them install a gearbox into the speedo cable system that
will correct the error but it will cost you $$$$ and it will still not be accurate over its entire range... ie at 50km/h it may read 45km/h but at
100km/h it will read exactly 100km/h.
they are unfortunately only meant as an indication of your actual speed, not a precise measurement because too many things can influence the readings.
hi
If you dont mind having a non original speedo, buy a new electronic VDO speedo, they are user setable and are pretty accurate.
