Bosch AL82N Alternator issues

Hi all,

Just upgraded my EFI test engine to a new Bosch AL82N Alternator and came across a couple of issues.

Firstly, can anyone tell me (for sure) what the amperage rating is on this unit - there is nothing on any of the paperwork that came with it to tell me, and if you wander around the 'net, you will come up with ratings anywhere from 51 amp to 57 amp.... I even looked on the Bosch web site and it wasn't listed (or I couldn't find it anyway!)

Secondly, this is more of a reference for anyone that might be looking to do the same conversion for themselves, I was told that the pully, fan and fan backing plate is the same as fitted to the 38 amp generators. The fan and backing plate cause no problems, but be careful of the pully you choose.

The pully I removed from my Gen. rubs on the front case of the alternator. I cured this problem by fitting a brand new pully (cost approx $20) - they look identical!

Very strange, but its all working OK now.:thumb

The most popular Rating I have come across is 51 amperes.. @ 14 Volts...
I wonder why it wasn't 55 amperes like the majority of alternators...

One of My son's Alternator pulley is very close to the alternator Housing.., and I think He did have a problem with it rubbing at one time... the alternator is the external regulator type... not sure whether its Bosch or Motorola...
