not very technical i know, but what shifter does everyone prefer here?
i'm looking at getting one like this:

but the bloody button is on the wrong side, anyone have one like it and know if you can mod it easily?
the shifter in my current car (1302 bug) isn't bad i think it's stock but the one in my dad's '59 bug is awesome the gears are so tight and quick
to change not sure if it is stock or not. anyways, opinions are appreciated. cheers
Hi
I dont like Tee bar shifters, they are for automatics. The best & cheapest is a Type 3 bent gear stick with a quick shift fitted. You need to
remove your shift rod and cut a slot in it for the shifter to fit. If you want to spend some money buy a Scat shifter.
1302Steve
Got a berg one. It works bloody well, like your Dads. It is a bit weird having a T bar though..
i prefer an empi trigger in my sbug
You can always just install a quick shift kit to get tight quick to change gears for alot less money. This will give you a stock look.
I think Berg makes a right hand drive version, but they cost a bloody fortune.
Yeah diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks but I love my berg shifter and wouldn't go back to stock...but thats just me.
just got an OG hurst, its arwsome, my nut on my shirt coupler cane off coming off the freeway so i drove bout 5km in 3rd haha, now ive tightened it ans ajdusted it the shifter is so much better so redo your coupling and bushing, then get the shifter if it isnt tight enuff for you
I run a shortened std shifter (got the angle grinder to it!!) with a short shift kit. It does help that iam 6 foot and have a seat 3 inches lower than standard.
thanks for the ideas
think i will get a quick shift kit for now
i dunno what mine is, but it has an 8-ball handle, how tacky is that. cool but tacky.
The stock one from a Type 3 is really great ... works every time and never misses a gear .
