After our little adventure making it back from Valla, I'm about to pull the motor out of SC's bay so we can get the head fixed/replaced.
The manual recommends using a trolley jack with an engine lift adaptor. Being a tightass with money I want to know if this is necessary or is there
bush mechanics way of doing it without crushing myself under a 2L.
Second, is it necessary to jack the back of the bus up to get the motor out or can it be left sitting on its' wheels, it's stock height.
Have Muir's and a Gregory's manual for the Kombi, but any advice most welcome.
You will need a trolly jack, stands and a few of blocks of wood, the rear of the van is best put up on jack stands, so you can get the engine out from
under, it is also easier to undo everything while its up in the air.
It is also easier to undo the 2 top gearbox bolts, this alows the engine and box to pivot down a bit before separating the engine and box, the box
will have to be supported by a block of wood or a jack stand so it dosen't swing too low on the front mount.
Good luck.
Thanks for the tips Dave, I suspected an engine holder was not a necessity
