Hello all

What do people use when they replace the cloth braided rubber lines that run between the master cylinder and the remote reservoir?

I've previously used fuel line, but this appears to seep fluid. I've also found it difficult to track down the original stuff. And to add to this the NZ compliance engineers apparently like to see certification numbers on the line, which I believe the original doesn't have!?!

Have you tried a brake repair shop. The would probably sell you some brake hose, or even give it to you as you only need a very short length.

yeah a lot of shops like that can make a line up for you if it has fittings on it or supply the hose.....

I, like most VW people only use the correct VW hose..
Blue cloth braided Hose... I wouldn't use anything else..
as it has to be a certain type of rubber for the brake fluid..
I have bought it from Volkshome in Victoria and from Mick Motors in Brisbane..
Micks part number:N20 3501 Blue Brake Hose...
Over the years I have seen many people try to use all sorts of hose for brake & clutch fluid..... it has to be the correct compound of rubber... its NOT cheap either..

It cannot be made up as it doesn't use any standard fittings just nylon type of VW push ons with barbs..

and once its pushed on...
its impossible to get off... it has to be cut off...
and be very careful of cutting the nylon barbed fittings if You have to cut it off....
You could end up buying a new master cylinder...

You don't happen to know what the ID of the blue hose is do you?

I have found a source from a VW parts dealer. $4.95 / 100mm + gst (12.5%) Wow!! You're right about the cost.

Those barb fittings on the master cylinder are replacable, the reservoir is a different story.
