hey guys, Ryan here, not Danielle, just CBF logging over
but with her car, is there an easy way to change the rear end over to the later IRS type, or are we stuck with the swingarm setup?
mainly because I been looking at different gearbox possibilities, and they all seem to use CV's off the box.
and does anyone know, can you use one of them porsches with the motor up front, and a transaxle out back, well can you use the transaxle out of one of
them in a beetle by any chance, if they are 5 speed?

umm thanks lugnuts
I'll check it out.
hopefully it will answer all, in the meantime, anyone else feel free to add.
after reading the lin,, its not so easy apparently, mainly it appears because the shifter goes into the end of the box, and the extra length needs to
be cut out of the pan.
although, it still leaves us with the problem of needing IRS rather than swingarm.

The trailing arm pivot points can be welded onto the swingaxle pan, but this requires a lot of work, and i have heard its easy to F up. Also u prob
need an engineers report
Other option is to just swap pans and get the disc brake front end as well (if u dont already have one?)
yep.
get a superbug pan and weld your king/ball torsion arm setup to the bulkhead. people tell me its easier to do it this way than try to put the pivot
boxes into a swinger....
anyone got a $500 super with good pans/box and 1600 motor??? (not worried bout body)
If your going tofit a 5 speed porsche to a beetle you have to cut away the firewall are under the seat
Best place to start I found was to have a type 3 as a doner car as its easier to cut the mounts of the subframe, let alone getting bigget torsion bars
and brakes. And having an i.r.s floor pan to make a jig for the pivot boxes. You might be able to borrow a jig from a vw shop near you if there is
any.
The other way that i did the 71 that i've got is to get a strut pan , cut the front off then weld a beam one in place of it. you can still buy these
new, better still weld a link pin one on and cut down a ball joint beam to fit (done this to the 67 i've got) Find a semi auto pan , no cutting n
welding required except for clutch tube. Enjoy .
Geez by the time i wrote that u guys beat me. Might have to type with two fingers.
alright, give up on the 5 speed fro now
did they make beetles at all with the IRS and torsion bar front setup?
we already have disc front end, its just the swingarm rear I dont like.
i may have a 72 sbug pan by the end of next month so if your interested u2ume
i tink it was 69 semiautos and 76 beeltes that had the twin link rear and ball torsion fronts.
if you handy with a mig and a grinder and good at finishing off, put your bulkhead on a super pan/backend and be happy.
well, for now, I guess she's just gonna be happy with what its got.
we might have to build another one properly, with ball torsion front and IRS out back. and maybe a fivespeed and all, and this time do it from a bare
pan
so all cutting and welding can be done happily.
