Is it possible or even dangerous, to swap the whole 60's steering column with an early (pre-1960) column in a 60's VW?

shouldn't be any problems there aldo,plan to do the same in the near future.

I'd be putting a collapsable column in if I was you..
I have a bit of a problem with a steel shaft sitting inches from my cheast :o
