Need to " tighten" my running boards as they are loose. Is this as simple as it seems, tightening the bolts that run out in to the guards?
There are about 5 x 10mm bolts that ruin along the lenght of the running board and hold it on to body. make sure these are tight too. You may find
that the running board has slipped up and off these bolts causing it to swivel on the bolts that hold it onto the gaurds.
Make sure you give all bolts a good soak in penetrating oil before you out a spanner on them. Snap them off and you will have a much bigger job to do.
Good luck.
good advice.. I have snapped a few....
I believe that running boards were a German invention and thats why they lost the War...
Which war... well.. 1st world war and errr 2nd world war...
Running Boards can Make any Man cry.... Why???
Try putting the B****** On... they don't seem to fit right...
They NEVER seem to fit right... New or used..
the 10mm bolts want to jump out of the slots...
and then the Mudguard bolts - well, they are another story -
I believe the correct way - is to undo all the mudguard to body bolts and let the running board bolts pull the mudguards in, so they touch each
other... with a rubber washer in between them.... this might sound easy....
but it isn't...
I remember reading about a fellow who bought two new running boards, took the old ones off... and proceeded to fit the New Running boards... They
Didn't fit..
or so He thought... He measured the old running boards and then the New Running boards...... Both were identical...
I rest My Case.....
I mean board.....
Lee - I hate Running Boards - Noonan
Sun Roofs are just as hard.... too
Someone should Blow them ALL UP
Oh goody goody, no wonder they are loose. Probably have been for a looong time.
However I will try!!
Have fun. If you have bought Brazilian replacements I would recommend investing in a Dremel to make them fit. The holes dont even line up. THe Mexican or German ones mount much easier.
