Back in the good old 50s & 60s , every time an Air Cooled VW was serviced, the door hinge pins were lubricated
this stopped the door hinge pins from Wearing....
But alas, this lubrication of Door Hinges has stopped and door hinge pins everywhere are wearing away... and Doors are dropping... so, to keep Your Doors from dropping any more...
Your Beetle Door Hinges should have little round black caps in the top of them.... All Model Beetles had them..
Pop the cap off and apply 2 drops of any oil - engine- gearbox - it doesn't really matter, what sort of oil... into the top of each hinge... a few days later - check to see if the oil is still sitting there or whether it has started to lubricate the hinge pins... If the oil has disappeared, give them another two drops... this should do until the next oil change...
then replace those little oil caps... the caps are still available at Good VW Stores everywhere... The caps stop water & grit getting into the hinges ...

If Your Beetle doesn't have the oil caps, Check to see if there is any dirt or paint in the hole first.. Paint & dirt buildup can stop the oil from doing its job... stick a nail or similar object into the hole and clean it out... first, then oil and re cap...

Lee the LUBRICATOR ...

If it moves - Lubricate it... stop the wear... NOW!!

Good idea, the black caps only came on post 68 bugs in OZ. Earlier bugs had no way lubing the pins. While you have the oil can in your hand, drop a few drops in the centre of your dizzy after lifting the guaze under the rotor button, only applies to dizzies with centrifugal advance dizzies.

I think the early bugs had a groove cut into the hinge pin which you could drop oil into. Although replacement hinge pins dont have this.

You're correct about that Che. The grooves are on the inside (towards the center of the car) of the hinge - probably to protect it from the rain and dust - smart thinking!
