Electronic Ignition
voltz - September 12th, 2004 at 09:18 AM

recently purchased an 82 model Kombi 2.0 efi air cooled and would like to fit electronic ignition, has anyone had experience with the aftermarket kits or am I able to use a complete unit from another model
Also in need of various rubber seals and a sliding door latch for the beast, recommendations for some parts suppliers please
While Im at it Id like to grab some information regarding building a new engine with view to carrying out some perfromance mods, any sites that explain the various barrels , heads , cranks etc ?
I see many different names of products but have no idea the good or the bad ;)
Regards

I bought a kit from Wayne Penrose V.W bit over $200
brand is Pertronix , american made PER-1847. Installed it over 15000kms ago and haven't touched it since, best piece of mind ever installed.
It fits directly into standard dizzy and takes about 15mins .

*82 EFI type 2 c omes std with points, your best bet would be to use a dizzy etc from a 83-85 vanagon or T3.

no worries
the more I find out about this vehicle the surer I am that the engine is not original, mine has adjustable tappets whereas Im led to believe this model should have hydraulic,I might visit the VW dealership on Monday and try and find out exactly what should be original equipment
