Has anyone successfully repaired a turn signal assembly from a late Beetle? I just took mine out and I cant work out how to get it apart any further. Some parts (plastic pieces, metal things and springs) fell out during my attempt to dismantle it.

I need to get the metal ring off the top of the assembly off in order to put it all back together but I can't work out how you go about this without breaking it.

Are these things usually expensive to replace? Quite a lot of the plastic parts are cracked so it might be a good idea anyway.

If the beetle switches are any thing like type 3 switches, you cannot fully disassemble them. The pin which holds the stalk in the rest of the assembly is like a long rivet. You cann't get it out without cutting the end off it. Once you've done this, it's pretty much impossible to reassemble it with out a new pin which would need to be fitted with some sort of special press.

From your description, I know what you've done as I've done it before. It is possible to put it back together, but it's very fiddly and takes ages. There's also a good chance you will lose something (as I did) as the various springs tend to shoot bits across the room.

It sounds like you could do with a new one anyway. Mick Motors just quoted me $85 for a new switch, but I think Beetle ones may be a bit cheaper.
