Short axles

Is it possible to put short axles on a 1970 bug?
Are any modifications necessary?

Just throwing around ideas so that maybe I can use my 7 inch wide mags without wide guards.

yes its possible you need the outer tubes as well.

The difference is between the spring plate attach point and the backing plate... there about 40 to 50 mm longer or shorter.

It well make your wheels sit futher in so you can go wider and change the offset around.

thanks :)
so does that mean that i would have to modify the location of my spring plates?

No the spring plates stay in the same place

the distance between the box and spring plate bolt on area remains the same for both long and short axles.

the difference in length is between the spring plate and the brake backing plate

Awesome, that means I can use those hotwire mags of mine for once instead of just having them sitting around with brand new tyres going nowhere.
Just gotta get some short axles now :)

If you can get a measurment on that aforementioned distance, I've got a pair you can have if it is suitable for ya... clean out one more thing out of my garage!
