You have to remove the gear shift rod....

undo coupling under cover plate under back seat.

remove the cover plate in between the torsion bars or on the front bulkhead of car.

remove the gear stick

slide the shift rod forward and out of the car now you access to the gear shift rod bushing and clip.

make sure you have the clip other wise the bush will fall off

Don't forget to mark on the tunnel where the plate at the base of the gearstick is. Otherwise you have to spend a bit of time fiddeling to get it back in the "sweet" select all gears spot.

And give the gear shift rod plenty of grease. Its a messy job so wear latex gloves and watch your carpets.

Cheers

yeah best way to re alline the gear stick is to select 2nd gear and centralise the stick and nip it up there, yes plenty of grease and make sure you have the reverse gear lock out plate fitted the right way around.

While you're at it replace the coupling as well, or at least the inserts. You need to remove it to do the bush anyway. They're only a few bucks and will make a big difference.
