Has anyone put an auto type 3 engine into a superbeetle? If so any info would be appreciated. James
I looked at it and the gear box is too long, would be a good idea but you will have to cut the torsions bar tube housing and eith increase the width of track or shorten the actual torsion bars or may be fit some from a different model.
I'm pretty sure they are too wide also, and won't fit between the frame horns.
The type 3's of that era have no frame horns.
We have a guy in the manxclub with a type 3 auto in a buggy though. A fair bit of custom fabrication required.
yeah your right Wes, it might be possible to remove the Beetle horns n graft the whole type 3 rear end into position
James-the motor from an auto Type3 would need all the usual work to convert it to upright cooling and a 12volt flywheel and clutch to suit.If it is the auto trans you are wanting to fit-big job but been done B4.I am about to do this to fit under an Oval Beetle.
I have seen one in an irs 1500 beetle it was nicely done
the bloke that owned it bought it like hat for $800
when I stuck my head underneath the fork where the box sat had been widened and boxed with plate steel
and the tbar shift on the tunnel looked factory
its light blue around the liverpool nsw area
IT CAN BE DONE !!
