ive got a 62 baja bug......the rear shocks are getting pretty bad and ive bought some replacements. whats the best and easiest way to get them on the car?
Hmmm.....unbolt the old ones, and bolt up the new ones....easy
i meant like do i use a trolley jack in the middle or axle stands under the axles to take wieght of the shock mounts or will they then fly up when the shocks are no longer holding them etc.
Shocks only dampen the suspension, meaning if you take the shocks off the car it doesnt alter the height of the car at all, so no they wont fly up
when you unbolt them......
However, you didnt mention if they are coil over shocks.....that changes things.....
no they arent coil over shocks just normal ones....thanks for the info 11cab i had thought about this but wasnt 100%
yep as 11cab notes, simple operation of unbolt old ones and bolt up new ones - there will be no tension or forces that will be unleashed once you unbolt them.
Put the car on axle stands unbolt and bolt on new ones. If teh old ones or new ones are gas charged they will expand when unbolted but only at about 3mm sec, so nothing to worry about.
if your replacement ones are new, make sure you charge them by fully pumping them in and out a few times. :thumb
