hey people,

may sounds like a stupid question (probably cos it is..) but i have real troubles clipping in my window rubbers....

i bought a new set from the states with the clips and all... but i don't know about you guys.. but my fingers were too big to get inbetween the rubber and the other side of the window gap to clip em in...

any tips and tricks someone could help me with? thatnks a bunch!

And what VW are they on??

well the ones i'm talking about are once piece window rubbers that are going into a 1972 superbug....
but i'll also need info on a 1969 beetle window rubbers as well...

If you mean the rubber around the fixed windows (windscreen, rear window etc) the usualy way is to mount the rubber to the glass, run a small STRONG string in the groove that sit's on the body panel, have someone press the glass into position so it sits against the lip on the body work, then slowly pull the string out on the inside of the car, this should pull the rubber over the lip in the panels.
It's a little difficult to explain, but quite easy to do.
I'd also recommend also using a good window sealant, the type that skins but never sets (and make sure everything is clean and rust free).

but what i was talking about (sorry wasn't very clear about it...)

i meant the window scrapers(?) the ones that get put in the doors where the dinwo goes up and down....
damnit i have no idea what i'm tlaking about do i...

make some thin timber wedges one for each clip on the outer scraper. then gently wedge or squeese the clip into each clip hole. use the wedges to clip the seal home.

Ah yes, they're wonderfull to install aren't they!!!!
Assuming they go in the same as my Kombi (all the same '72-'79), I'm pretty sure they do, as the scrapers in my '74 beetle look the same.
Not sure that I can be of much help, I have replaced mine, but with lots of trial and error (& cursing). I had the glass out to fit them in, but have heard you can do it without removing them???
Hopefully you removed the old ones, so you know how they fit in! My biggest trouble was the scrapers were poorly made, and a very poor fit, good Kombi ones are very elusive. So it was important to make sure everything lined up and the wire was a perfectly straight line before putting them in, as you can't do it afterwards, and any wire poking out will scrap on the glass. Once that was done, it wasn't too hard to put them in position and push on the back of the loop that clips onto the door itself with a wide flat piece of plastic (a big screw driver will do the job, but I didn't want to damage the rubber), I also found it helpfull to hold onto the rubber to stop the loop from just pushing flat and not going in.
And that's all there is to it!!
I'd also install the outer one first with the Aluminium surround.

thanks for the info, i'll try using something to clip them into the doors.. i got sooo frustrated i've been driving around with the rubbers off....

(i didn't take the olds ones off.. they fell off, the previous owner must've had the same problems as i did... so he glued them on! not a bad idea... but it's a no no in my books...)
