ok, I want to do the "lowered and narrowed" front end treatment, but have a vague idea about the where and what!

How do i achieve this look:



Also what would be the recomended wheel and tire size for this conversion?

why is the first question dont narrow it if you dont have to.

Are yr tyres scraping n rubbing ???

How much you can narrow depends on whether you have a link pin or ball joint front end. With link pin you can only narrow 1-2inches before you start having to do some body surgery...with a ball joint up to 3 inches is generally okay.

There are things like shock tower modifications and inner wheel well cut outs that will enable you to narrow it more. Dropping it is achieved generally with adjusters welded into the centre of the beam whilst you are narrowing...or using drop spindles...or both.

Lots of info on the net, do a search and ye will find. To narrow it as much as that pic, most of the german folks club cars don't run shock towers at all so they can narrow beam up to 5inches...not highly recommended and to my knowledge not highly legal

That pic is of Dweezles bug, built by Trayle Duncan. I believe it has a 6.5 narrowed beam. Basically you would need to hack off the shock towers, of make them fit from inside the fender walls. You can go up to about 4 inches on both L/P and B/J beams. The Link/king beams though you will need custome shock towers for clearencing, so that you dont cut the body. I have a 4 inch narrowed BallJoint beam, and the only work done to the inner fender walls was a slight little tap, to massage it in! wheels and tyres, you will probably want to get 4.5 inch wheels, and 135/15 tyres for a front like that!

If its a nice car don`t cut your body up.
I run a narrow beam in my daily driver and I thinks it best to try and keep your body intact.
I done NO body mods to this car.
Don`t butcher your car just for a look.

hey Bugboy, (and anyone else who can answer this)

how much did you narrow your beam by?
I have not done a dry assemble of my pan and body (body is at buggy brads shop) so I don't know how far I can bring it in without the towers rubbing/hitting the body.
I have a 56 oval body on a late pan with a ball joint front end. I don't want to cut my body, so if needed I'll get a second beam and start again.

Here's a pic of the beam I had built for my oval its not got any shock towers I know there a lot to be said on this issue wether or not to keep the shock but it depends on what you want your car to do if you want a speed machine then look at the possiblites of using shock towers which will also keep it legal.

My advise is to do a long search and thoroughly look at the pros and cons of building a narrowed beam

My car is not going to be a high Km's car with only ocassional use so I went without but it still needs to be correctly set up before rolling on the road

from memory it was about 20mm each side. I am putting dropped spindles on it (CB performance ones) with (possibly) BRMs. Happy now I don't have to worry about finding a second donor beam
