Hello, can some one please offer some advice on my 63 Bettle A post repairs ? I have been given information on either whelding in replacement A post
panels or just welding in repair plates to repair the rust. I would prefer to do the latter if possible. I have ground out the rusted areas although
the photos were taken before this. Does any one know some one who could do on site welding in Melbourne, for a reasonable price and knows what they
are doing. The car is located in Parkdale.

Ahhh, I have just completed an A-pillar bottom and inner guard replacement on my 63 beetle. Sorry I do not have pics but it wasn't too hard, just
time consuming. Mine was pretty rusty therefore not worth patching - yours may be easier to patch though?
Basically I bought the repair panel that was just the outer skin (not including the plate that the door bolts to)...this was easier to replace since I
didn;t have to worry about realigning the door bolts. I just tacked the existing plate to the heater channel to stop it moving, then cut out the
necessary material, then trimmed and welded in the repair panel.
After that was in place I cut out a section of the inner guard and replaced it in the same manner.
Tools I used: 9in and 4in grinders (cut off and grinding discs), mig welder (with gas), measuring tape/ruler (make sure you measure twice and cut
once)....plus miscellaneous hand tools.
Good luck if you do it, it is not too bad, just time consuming!
