Konis: the best?
ruckus - September 30th, 2004 at 09:07 AM

Just wondering what the best suspension setup is for a '71 standard beetle. I've seen alot of people running Koni reds on all four corners. Is this the best setup?

I want the car to handle as well as possible for street/cruise purposes but still be able to throw it around a little (the 205 is for the rest :thumb ).

Well be lowering the car a bit too if that makes a difference.

I run koni's all round on the super and there are great, I do run the fronts with stiffer springs.

I got them and love them. I hear gas shocks are good though (KYB).

Hi

They last so long, they will be last set of shocks you buy. Hand them down to your children.

so right steve. Dad pulled out a set of koni's that he had on his bug in the 70's when i got my bug. But i bought a new pair as the seals had gone and stuff from being still for 25 years. Koni's are great. In the super i think i can run 914 inserts which you can get with externally adjustablilty?

Hi

I bought my rears in the mid 70s and the fronts in the late 80s, all still going strong. I used RX7 fronts in shortened housings on the front and my rears were upgraded to sport (yellow) specs soon after I bought them.

They don't make yellows for the front though do they?

BiX - September 30th, 2004 at 10:43 AM

I run the reds? I thought they were the sport ones? stiffer than standard.

1303Steve - September 30th, 2004 at 10:47 AM
