Fuel Consumption
karmannghia60 - October 7th, 2004 at 09:18 AM

My 1300sp with a 30PICT carb used to average around 9 klms/lt in city driving. I replaced it with a 1600sp with a similar carb, now I only get less than 7klms/lt. Is this reasonable? Looks quite low to me

No - it isnt great, but i wouldnt expect more than the 1300

You 100% sure your speedo is measuring right??

Mine was 20% low.

Only clicked 4kms against a a 5km highway tester / marker

Personally in city if you got more than 8 km/L i would be suspicious

Raf,

Sounds like your getting bad fuel economy!

Been checking the fuel consumption on my 65 Splitty with a 1600SP motor in it. It takes about 35litres of fuel and does a touch over 200 miles on a full tank. My reckoning is that its doing about 26mpg or 11.05km/l. The bus is a devon camper with a full wood interior, engine stock with reduction gears etc.

Steve, 200miles on 35lts? That's bloody good. I wish I got anywhere near that. I think its running bery rich but I am unable to adjust the carb. I think its on its last legs. Might look for a replacement. I should've bought one last weekend @ Bacchus Marsh

Raf,

Thats with a german ex-NOS army engine. I think there is still one available if your interested. Have a look through the old posts for the guy's number as its currently in Melbourne I think!
