G'day all,
Just putting a type 4 in a kombi (1975) which had a 1600. Is there anything I need to modify before doing this (i.e engine bay/gearbox
modification)?
Regards,
Jimmy
Yep there are a few things i believe you need to do.
Have a read of the sites below.

and
read through some of the posts here

Its is something about bushing the shaft or starter motor or something. You also need a 200 mm flywheel. The first site by Tune is a good one. Also go
to Jake Raby's site. He loves em but is a bit......

A 75 Kombi should have had an 1800 or 2000 type 4 engine in it originally.
The 1600 would have been a modification ( a retrograde step)and may or may not have been fitted to the original gearbox. You will need to find out
what gearbox you have first and what size flywheel you have on your engine.
Jeff
1600 engines were avaliable from the factory in Kombis till '75. The last ones had alternators and weird aircleaners that take paper air
filters.
If it doesn't have the door on top of the enginebay, it came with the 1600 from the factory.
Yes good one Dave,
It did come with a 1600 originally with the air cleaner you desrcibed.
Aside from all the type 4 tin ware, carbies, 1800 flywheel, and alternator which I have are there any other mods I need to make to fit a type 4?
You will need a throttle cable, the T4 chassis mounts that go from the chassis to the rear engine bar, brake booster conection rubber and pipe.
Thats all I can think of.
