I have aftermarket type 3 COOL Cylinder tinware in My 1600 single port engine. Now the normal VW tinware that fits under the cylinders.. will NOT FIT with the extra cool tinware...
Do I ALSO Need the extra tinware PLUS the COOL TINWARE?? I did read a long time ago that You just Use a VERY Large Hammer to Make the original tinware fit... but I'm thinking maybe I don't need anything under the COOL Tinware.....

If you want to run the standard bottom tin, (under the push rod tubes) there's no need to run cool tin, as the standard Beetle tin works fine if it is fitted correctly and complete.

Cool tin is only handy if you don't want to run any tinware below the push rod tubes, or have a merged exhaust that dosn't let you run bottom tin.

It dosn't cool any better than standard Beetle tin.

So I don't need the extra pieces of tinware under the pushrod tubes Dave...
and I have read many times that the type 3 cool tinware is FAR SUPERIOR to the little beetle bits of tin...:o

Cool tins push more air over the base of the cylinder heads, they also fill up with sand nd crap.
The other peice of tin I am guessing you are talking about is the flat bit that usually bolts onto teh heater boxes and protects the push rods. This tin also alows the hot air to exit the cylinder ares with little restriction. I would suggest keeping it if possible. I have seen mny buggy owners take it off and they noticed the temp difference of a few degrees casue the hot air doesn't flow as well.

Yes if you can run the bottom tinware that bolts to the heaterboxes run it, but if you are using cool tin, it wont fit without a bit of a modification with a hammer.

Cool tin directs about as much air around the bottom of the cylinder as the standard beetle tin, if it is all used and fitted correctly. there are 7 pieces to it including the very bottom tin
