NigeType3 - January 13th, 2003 at 07:10 PM

Hi all just wondering if anyone has used the Pertronix Ignitor 2 point replacement electronic ignition system for the 009 dizy.

It suposidly will give up to 15% beter tourque etc etc plus you never have to change points again. just want to no if its worth it

thanks Nige

I think there was some discussion that you should not run one of these on a non doghouse cooler motor because it doesn't allow for a slight retard in cylinder 3 to take into account the cooling taken away by the oil cooler. A cooler located in the doghouse doesn't get in the way of cooling cylinder 3 so it doesn't matter.

Maybe Ben or someone else can confirm this?

Thanks for the replies but as you can see Im a real learner dubber so I have more questions.

1. What is the Mag-Fire system and its advantages.

2. How do standard points allow for retard to cylinder 3. As the pertronix system only replaces the points shouldn't it work the same?

Thanks Nige

The cam on the dizzy of a non dog house is 3 degrees retarded. ie the 4 corners ot the post of the shaft are not square.

You there fore cannot swap dizzies around with gay abandon if you have an early shroud.

OK that makes sence so at this stage I should say that I've got a 71 type 3 wagon, with I think a 009 dizy already installed as there is no vacume advance on it as stated in the manual is this bad for my car?

hmmm.....cause its a Type 3 i will say i have no idea! :D

where is the oil cooler on a T3? Is it in the air stream or out?

I am guessing here but i would say if the oil cooler is in the air stream and blocking #3 like on a 40 horse then a 009 is not a good idea.

any others? :D

As your looking at the motor the oil cooler is on the top rear left hand side. it dosn't appear to obstruct air to the cylinders.
