I have a stock 1641cc dual port I will be getting rebuilt soon. I was thinking of getting something like the Pertronix ignition sytem in. Is it worth it or are there better systems out there?
Bang for buck they are not bad
Classic Vee Dub @ Rydalmere not (Pacific) - confusing aint it? - had them on special a while back for like $69.95
Otherwise a Magfire is a good choice.
No gain or change in performance
Just dont need to do points/timing again
If you think that never having to fiddle with points is worth it (and I do!:thumb), then go for it. Other than that there has been no discernible
difference in performance (been in for a couple of years)

Depending on what distributor you have, the Pertronix might be better than the Magire/Compufire. I just got a Magfire but found that the rotor
doesn't seem to clear the sensor out of the box on the vacuum advance distributor.
The pertronix apparantly has no clearance problems (according to aircooled.net).
i have a 009 with a pertronix "ignitor" and was always wondering how these compared with the compufire
I have had the Pertronix 2 with thr flamethrower coil fitted for about a year now. It starts first time every time (even if left for a week or more)
and as my engine 1678, 110 cam & 9.5 comp. Seem to have nothing down low but alfter fitting has better low down power and screems throught to red
line realy nicly.
I would say there are marginal power gains on a hot or wormed over motor. I am planing on adding their second strike unit hopfully next year and
puting on the dyno to actually get some figures just for fun.

I've had one on the splitty for 4 years. No messing around with points, adjusting the timing and the bonus is that you can leave the ignition on
without fear of burning out the points!
Just make sure you have the right coil to work with it (blue not a black one)
Cheers

I am looking at putting in a 009 distributor and then getting the 40,000 volt coil from them as well to round out the package. Sounds like you all
like them though so I think I'll do it.
Thanks guys

works fine in a 009, no real difference to power but saves adjusing and doesn't brakedown with high revs.
yeah. when my beetle had the motor in it. started first time every time. even in cold. was good.
