after blowing a head in my bus, and weighing up the options of recoing mine - heads ($1800) and buying a second hand engine ($2000), ive decided to bight the bullet and buy a full reco engine. ive rang almost every place in melbourne and the standard price for a 2L is around $3500. this seems like the best option as im always driving dubs so i can change the engine over to any ride.....and its probably the most cost efficant in the long run.

however are there better reco engines than others?? they come with a 3 year warranty, but has anyone had bad experiences with certain places etc etc.....also do they make an unleaded reco engine???

any advice would be appreciated

$1800 for reco heads??? You can buy new ones with valves & springs for $480ea.

What do you mean you can change the engine over to any ride? 2L Type IV motors don't exactly just drop into any dub.

If you want a fully reco'd engine, great, buy one. If you've just done a head and the rest of the motor is still OK, you can save alot of money by replacing just the heads.

im defiantly not a mechanic, and have never had place to fiddle with my dub as i rent (flats) im actually in st kilda, so im sure you know the parking sitch? i have to get work done through vw places.

the reason for not recoing my engine is that it only has 110 compression at the the best, and there all over the shop. it was running on 3 cylinders and a burnt vavle for some time too. to have both heads done through a machenic im looking at approx $1800 (quoted through about 5 vw specialist)

i have found a good "second hand" 1800 at wolkspower which is apperantly a "corker" for $2000. its got a 6 months warranty which is great since summer is almost here, and ive been told that it has 150 compression on each head, and dripping no oil. what are your opinions of volkspower??? anyway im actually thinking of going for that. im in a tight spot, as i only have a week to fix my bus, otherwise the rental car bill will be through the roof!

if i had more time, id hang out for a wreck with a reco enging in it, there was one in the trading post for $700, it lasted a day apperantly.

hey dude save yourself some cash and buy this car! good motor! i will give you $100 for the seats

Ok, considering your situation, buying a reco'd engine is probably your best option.

Volkspower are pretty good, I've been there in the past and generally been happy with their work.

I feel for you as we've had similar problems recently, fortunately we live in the burbs and have a big garage so I could do the work myself. Good luck.
