Beetle heater cables
helbus - January 15th, 2003 at 10:08 PM

I had to take the Beetle out for a drive and I was getting so hot, and I realised the heater flapper boxes were still wired up to the ON position from back in the colder months.
The wife hadn't complained amazingly, and was driving around like this in 30+ degree weather!

I don't have to do it now, but honestly how long will it take to fit new cables to the flapper boxes using a hoist?

Oh, and yes I have removed the wire.

It is a 1970 1300

It's a pretty easy job as I recall. Getting old ones out is really easy; you just snip off the cable ends at the rear with pliers, then pull them through and out at the handbrake.

Grease the new cables well and feel them into the tubes. Hook them to your levers, connect them at the rear and you're done. There should be little cone-shaped rubbers that fit over the cable tubes at the rear, which stops water getting in.

Couple of hours, tops. Actually since you've already removed the cables, probably half that. Assuming there are no blockages in the cable tubes...
