performance brake options for BJ front
waltermitty - November 4th, 2004 at 07:32 PM

what are the options? I have an oval on a IRS BJ pan with 7 and 8 " porshe wheels and a 2332 engine . GL forums go on about 951 and 944 cliper mods but on strut fronts , are they a good performance mod for BJ also ? Or too expensive ? What ideas? all appreciated.
Regards Mitchell

Mitch, I'm putting 944 S2/turbo disks, hubs and brembo calipers on the front and rear of my Cabrio. Its probably overkill, but I cant resist red Porsche calipers peeping out through 17' Porsche Turbo Twists.

Let me know if you want more info.

Cheers

Steve

I probably went with a more "off the shelf" option and fitted CB performance discs in porsche pcd. Easy installation - wouldn't pull you up as well as brembos but you just have to weigh up the cost/ease of installation and figure out what suits you/yourself best. Good luck - make sure you upload some pics which ever way you go.

Im considering the CSP disc kits.
After seeing the quality of the kits in this months VolskWorld, they do a whole 'how to' on fitting them, they look the bees-knees!

i've got single piston ATE Porsche calipers, hubs and rotors with tilton master cylinders and it looks the part but I'll be going turbo calipers :) the lathe work required to get the hubs on your spindle should be 400ish so I think this is one of the best and cheapest brake upgrades.

hey steve, how much did 944 setup cost? u2u me

Craig Torrens - November 5th, 2004 at 03:18 PM

I'm working on a holden vented disc and twin pot caliper setup at the moment.................price will be nice and cheap as well (holden parts are always cheap !)

the guys at vforce are using Alfa Romeo twin pot brembos at the front on some of their cars. Uses a ventilated disc and the pad is a fair bit bigger than beetle discs

Hey Mitch, speek to Richard Holzl at V Force racing the boys over there muck around with those calipers. If start playing around with Brembos,Wilwoods ,APS you will pay big money but have great stopping power JVLRacing

Brembos come standard on Alfas, they do stop well though. somewhat better than my 4 wheel Drums on the '62 Beetle.
