Our 76 mercedes needed the head reconditioned at 450,000km
70,000kays sounds like a new motor!!!
do you nee dto do anything?

just do the heads, see if you are happy with them, if not, have a careful rethink & maybe do rings 2nd time around, 70000 ks is nothing on the rins & barrels if it has been looked after, when you take the heads off you will be able to see any problems with the bore anyway.
that is what I would do, if I was putting the redone heads on.

but what I would really do is leave the whole thing alone & enjoy the motor as it is because it is obviously OK in the first place, & concentrate on other projects which need doing

it is your choice, & you are doing nothing wrong, but a turbo can take a bit of sorting out, you would be better off putting your good, reliable known qty motor aside, sort out the turbo & heads etc, on another 1800, which surely can be obtained cheap with dead heads , if things go wrong with the turbo, you have a ready to go motor for back up, when everything is worked out right, you can have fun, thrash the shit out of that motor for a while, then transfer the gear onto the good motor & become a responsible driver again:D
