Hi guys,
I've had the genny and the battery out of the vehicle ('68 Type 3) for some time. The genny has been rebuilt. Can someone suggest how to polarise
the genny again so that it will charge the battery? At present the red gen light stays on when the engine is running.
I have tried the following instructons that I found once before:
"Disconnect the field wire (DF) from the regulator and ground it. Remove the battery lead (B+) from the regulator and momentarily touch this lead to
the armature terminal (D+) of the regulator. Reconnect the field wire (DF) and the battery wire (B+) to the regulator."
Anyhow, this didn't work for me. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong please?
Here's Rob and Dave's suggestion:

PROBLEM SOLVED!
It occurred to me that maybe the generator casing was not earthing to the fan housing. This is because I powdercoated the fan housing and the
generator bracket. D'oh!
Anyhow after I ran a ground wire from the negative battery terminal to the generator case it worked and all is behaving as it should.
Thanks mnsKmobi for the link!
Regards,
