hello to all:cussing
my 74 kombi (1800 twin carb standard-manual) has the problem of running on when switching off the motor after driving: by 'running on' I mean the
engine won't shut down 'cleanly' (it wants to keep going even though the key has been switched off!). This results in
the motor making a coughing and wheezing sound most every time; a short drive 'sometimes' or 'mostly' will see the engine shut down cleanly, but
it really does vary. its like...will it do this time?
heads were replaced 20 000klm ago. gets regularly serviced.
oil change, points, valves etc. has had a carbie kit through both carbs. changed the coil.
am 'busting' to cure this problem. any advise, help soooo greatly appreciated
thanks Shane-o
Hi Shane
I had this trouble with my fastie it turned out that the vac advance on my dissy was in full advance at idle.
hope this helps
marc
several things can cause this
too advanced timing
too rich a mixture in carbs
carbon build in heads
are a few things that jump to mind
check yer shut off solenoids(or lack of them)on your carbies. Sometimes when they are rebuilt blanks are put in(ends cut off) Also check your dizzy mechanism and timing as mentioned above:blah
I had this problem with my kombi and I fixed it by setting the valves. I know you said in your post that the valves were done but it is still worth checking.
I have this problem with my 1200 in my '63 when I run it on Unleaded. I normally run it on Premium and it doesn't have a problem.
Try switching to Premium (if you are not already using it) and see if this helps. If not, start looking at all the things listed above.
Cheers
