rusted bolts Q's?
buzzbug - November 10th, 2004 at 07:39 PM

Ok, so i just pulled the running boards off the bug and the passenger side came off easy.
The drivers side however came away without undoing the body bolts.
Now the bolts are stuck in place and are so rusted that even using the correct size socket ended up rounding the head of the bolt.
Any idea on how to get them out?

Firstly hit them with some WD40 and drive around for a couple of days to give it a chance to soak in. Spray them each morning. Then try the trusty vice-grips on them, if not you'll probably have to drill them:duh

Use Bolt-off way better than WD use the same, or heat the bolt up and try that, hit him with the hammer aslo to shock them.

Wise man say, when bolt no budgy, throw tool!
Then after rounding the heads off throw tool again!
Now...angle grind head off, drill centre out of bolt and use easy out/thread removing tool.
Or drill the whole bolt out, then retap the thread hole.
Not as hard as it sounds either.
Wise man say,If this still no worky,Use match and petrol..........

Grind or saw a slot in the head of the bolt, get a impact driver and flat head screw bit and give em a good wackin.
Be best to do what SAS has said first, if that dont work an impact driver should.
Also, hit the bolt with a hammer, heat it with a butane torch, spray it in WD40, try and tighten to break the bond and then back it out.

Extracters would probably be pointless to use as the bolts stuck in well enough to strip the head then it'll just snap an EZ out.

oh, and if you have 6-point sockets and an impact driver that could work also.

good luck
