I have been having issues with my mech fuel pump and thinking i may go electric. Any ideas on a good brand of pump? i do have a regulator to go in.
also whats the best way to wire it up? so that it goes on with the ignition and also i think next year for cams all fuel pumps must switch of
automatically when the engine stops running, any ideas?
also best place to mount it?
cheers
As close to the tank as you can.
there are a few places on the L near the tank.
"must switch of automatically when the engine stops"
This would be the most important thing.
I have a mate that runs one i will ask him how he did it
from what i assume i can run it off the ignition so that when it comes on when the engine is one, but then i need to get it ti switch of when the engine stops, even if the igition is still on, eg in a roll over etc.
You can get switches that work off engine oil pressure - no pressure it switches off the fuel pump. I think Holley make one, most race shops should be able to help you out.
You hook up a relay to the oil switch light (maybe alternator light) which will keep the fuel pump on whenever the engine is running. If the car is often left for some periods and the fuel lines/carbies often go dry, you could hook up a timer circuit between the relay and the IGNITION switch, so that when you first turn the ignition on, it will turn on the fuel pump for a little while (5-10seconds say) so you don't have to spend as long cranking the engine over in order for it to fire up.
