engine thoughts

Howdy all you Aussie Vee Dubbers,

I am in a difficult situation at the moment. I am looking to hotrod my 64 beetle, and as alot of you enthusists read this you will probably shake your head and sigh, i am asking for your help on building a quick engine for it. Now my first problem is that i have no idea what enginge i have in my beetle. Now to help you guys, help me. My engine in my beetle tho, being unknown it has a stamping in the side of the block, something like hi-comp or something, he said that he thought the stamping ment "it had been bored out to 1800" i am atrtempting to ask the previous owner what it is marked,as he knows what it is (i remember him telling me when i bought it) However i am still unsure.

Anyways, my goal is to build a quick twin port carburettored motor, most likely to run 044 heads and dual webvers, a stroker crank, cam cahnge ect... however by the "feeeel" of my motor it certainly isnt a 1800, however it feels a little gutsier than a 1300... it is currently only a single port, on a stocko de rocko carby.

Anyways, getting to the point, under the circumstances that my engine fails to be an 1800 bore. I am after a 1600 twin port motor to start with. I am currently short of cash... understandably as i am 16, doing TEE, only holding a casual job.

Hoqwever any help of whereabouts would b great

cheers Corey

Hi Corey hows it goin, yeah i did what your thinking about doin,i bought a 1600tp and was goin to supe it up and wasted $500,theres not much worth keeping in a 2nd hand motor if your goin to a performance motor. If your goin to stroke it yu should really start with a new case and then yule get a new crank and on it goes,in other words forget the 2nd hand stuff, keep hangin in the sale section and pick up stuff piece by piece when u can get it cheap, cheers dude;)

Lugnuts is right....

You need new case and internals if you are serious about the projest....

Thinks about...
what size you want
what for, and how often it will be used..
budget vs time..there are heaps of options, some cheaper and others heaps.
car mods..you said 64...still got drums on front? suspension of box modified.

If your motor is still single port it is probably a 1500(maybe with 1600 barrells), could be 1300 but you say it goes O.K. ..who knows.

Be patient and we will help you with your choices...

you can call me on 0416 115 993 if you need anything specific answering ....I have got heaps of stuff from the states...

1600TP, you can pick them quite cheap and in good running order.

Value for money, the deeprer the pocket the bigger the engine.

It would be useful to get a 1600 TP just for little bits and pieces like bolts, studs, etc. The others are right in saying you need a new case and a good crank for a performance engine
