Hey all, anyone know what size the widest rims you can fit under a lowered squareback?

Next, how wide do you need them?
I ask as i run 215,s on the rear of my rat.Looks fat but only 3/4 of the tyre touches due to lots of negative camber.
We can set you up with the BRM's aswell.
What's the end result your going for.
You can run a 195 on the rear quite easily with BRM's.

Depends on your rims and how low your squareback is. My notch took 16 x 7's ( Porsche Dials on adapters) but sat very close to the top of the bump stop on rears. I took 10mm off it and all ok. car is yet to be lowered and can only come down about1 1/2" to lose any ugly gaps and thats with the guards rolled! My rims have a mad offset though.

Dont think you can go that big to be honest but prove me wrong.

Nah i meant BRM'S WITH 195's.
They balloon slightly,but thats the look.
Mine up there are a lot wider then the 5.5 BRM.

Here's the rat with the EMPI's running 195's

so 15 x 6 or 15 x 7 is ok for a squareback then? It seems like once you hit 16 you're pushing it.

The hieght of a 16 with low profile tyre should be ok.
Its the offset ya really gotta worry about.It could pump the tyre right out against the gaurd edge.Or in against the body.
Trail and error.
Best way is to get a rim or two off friends and mount them in there.
If you can find the wheels you want that is.

Thanks Dragbug, low-profiles it is but I'm concerned: a little dangerous when i'm thinking of importing some wheels. Better do some more research before i commit! Don't want to get them here only to find out they're hitting the guard. Thanks

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!!!!
My type 3 came with 195's on stock rims, very bad combination, but there's no clearence issues with them. It's a 73 square.

I can hear another can of worms being opened. I ran 205/65 x 15 on standard rims on the back of my '70 Notch without any problems. Also ran that combo on the back of my Ghia.

I had no issues with scrub at all nor any issues with beading pop. Both these cars where F3 travellers so had increased tyre heat for long periods, and I never had a blow.

That was the risk I took, and it worked fine.

Ih there, I have 225x35 18'' 42off set on my girlfriends type 3 square back 71model. Clears everything, but gave the rear shock tower a tap. The stud pattern is commodore.:P

i got 14x6 VW stamped rims all round...with yokohama 195x55's...looks mean....and it'll be lowered as much as it can go...doesnt stik outside the guards or nuthin either

I have BBS 17x7” with Pirelli 205x50's on the rear,
and 195x45's on the front ov my 67 fasty.

I did not do it as they were on when I got the car but no rubbing to speak of.

Depending on what year of car u have 5.5 is pushing it but seems to fit up alright offset is a problem , how low is car too.
Paddo you car is not lowered. it has big wheels and has not been lowered so those wheels will fit. the car they were on origonally had guards rolled and things bent to fit them up to the car.
