Hey guys, how low can you go with a kombi ?
We just did a few and most ended up ar around 250mm under the front. Down about 200 mm from where they started. Just wondering how much lower we can
go before we get issues.
mmm
mmmm
Drop it the same again and it will look spot on!
Or do this....
how much better does a lowering job look on a bus. ilike it alot.
with my last bay that was lowered around the same or alittle less than yours ,i wanted it lower and was told i would need to modify the bump stops
.
your bus looks like it almost needs tubing
to get to that height we cut the rear stop rubbers and used adjustable front stops and torsion adjusters from Kimm at Indian Automotive.
Dragbug, the floor below the front seats on a kombi is roughly level with the bottom of the door, gives you an idea how much (or how little) travel
that one has!
Brad, that looks cool.
As for me, I found an easy way to lower, did a trip to the tip today, weighed 2.5T on the way in!!!!
:blush

2.5T .. man your bus gets a hard life...
I wish my mums bus was lowerd but then she wouldnt able to go jump the center islands and the rounder bouts lol! I think thats the grey bay ute has
the paint shop pro lowering kit.

That's what their made for
For comparison, I reckon its much the same..... The 16's would make it look less.

Oh and I reckon thats still driveable. If you start going lower it would become a real pain in the ass. Theres already a few places im now avoiding
!!!
Cheers
Scotty
Just to show you all its not paint shop modified!
I have spoken to the owner a few time's.
Oversea's car.
2.5T is a light load for Andy......It must have weighed twice that on the Round OZ trip....lol :thumb:thumb:thumb

It gets bumpier the lower you go, but a good set of shortened shocks does wonders for the ride quality. And if you play with the adjusters you can
smooth out the ride a bit.
hey bigbaja,
Do you mind mentioning how much the hardware was you needed for that 3 inch or so drop?
Cheers,
Wezley
Harwdware ? Do you mean the adjusters and 8 hours of labour ? If so the adjusters are like $330 retail. Labour is free if you do it your self.
Mine's not as low as the single cab. But my double cab is about as low as I want to go. If I went much lower a wouldn't be able to get all the
camping gear in on the the trips away.

smoooth!!! i'd luv to lower my bus but was wondering how much it affects load carrying ability as i jamb mine full of stuff regularly.how much weight till you bottom out.etc.
Once it`s on the bumpstops it can`t go any lower anyway!!!
but some people remove the bumpstops!!
or put in adjustable bump stops like indian do so u can change the position of it!!
its like lowering any car the ride gets worse and worse the lower u go and soon a kidney operation is needed if +6" is done (so i have been told!)
cheers

Here`s some shots of my CrewCab.
Stock ride height................................
Front dumped.
I changed the front tyres to 185/60/14`s the rears are 215/65/14`s so it has a bit of a rake still.
Height comparison to a bottle of Coopers Pale Ale!! Hmmm Beer.
Another shot.............
Back dropped
Not got much travel left on the back!!
It`s sitting on the rear bumpstops (cut down) but rides OK.
I`m gonna sort this out soon though so I can get the back down a bit more.
I raised the front up a bit than on the "Coopers" pictures coz I couldn`t get my jack out from under the beam! But like I said, I need to fix up
the back so that it sits level, don`t really do "Rake".
Get the back down another spline and I`ll wind the front down a bit more.
Another problem I had was that the anti-roll bar sat on the floor! I know you can get "lowered" ones but I found that if it was possible to flip it
over and fit it to the top of the suspension arms.
Sorry about the quality of this pic....................(before shot)
After.............
