Testing 6v fuel gauges?
Gibbo - December 1st, 2004 at 07:55 PM

Anyone know how I can test some 6v gauges?

I have about 8 to test.

Thanks!

To see if the gauge works

Turn the ignition on providing all the wiring is hooked up

remove the wire to the sender unit and earth it out on the body of the car, a fuel tank bolt is a good place to earth

the gauge needle should go to the full position. this will test the gauge

Any way of testing them off the car?

Get battery (6V is best 12V seems to be OK too as many
vehicles continue to run 6V guages after 12V concersion
with no prob)...

Connect power to the power terminal on the gauge and earth to the earth terminal. If needle springs to full position
its OK...

use a decade box to test the gauge at 3/4 1/2 1/4 and empty positions.
