Can any one tell me the best way to identify what size my 73 micro' engine is. I suspect it aint the original motor. The chassis numbers tell me it originally would have been a 1689cc

The engine number will give you the basis of the block. Could be an 1800. You can type VW Engine Number into Google and it will come up with some sites with the detail you're after.
