i'm changing my floorpan (bit of a long term project this, but finally on the rebuild!)
as there is a number stamped on the pan near the gearbox (VIN/Chassis number?) does this affect the registration?
do I need to change anything on the rego docs? and does this cause any problems with rego?

Yep. RTA records are based on the chassis number for cars with removable bodies...
from my recent experience....
basically wen u go to rego it after the swap it will be registered as a new car, doesnt matter that it looks the same as before, the shell doesnt
matter, only the VIN.
for example, thats why Ovals with a 67 pan r registered as a 1967 beetle, not a 1956, coz the VIN says wat car it is.
this means that once u hav completed the chassis swap, u will hav to go for a blue slip, register, get new numberplates etc just as if it was a car u
found with no rego. (unless the new chassis has rego). the old rego will not matter, thats why i waited till my oval ran out of rego, then did the
swap, and reregistered it with the new vin.
hope u understand wat im on about.
btw, if u hav personal plates put them on hold b4 u do the work...

That's why Im putting a 72 chassis under my 73, the laws for pre 73 are more lenient.

just do a "rust repair" right about where the chassis number is.... and weld the oldchassis number in, although i am in noway recommending this and it is deffinantly not legal, put still possible

i had my suspicions about the blue slip.... bugger, the old pan was really beyond repair though
oh well, if I have to blue slip it anyway it takes the pressure off getting it done before the rego runs out in january
and I spose there are some sort of rules for re-bodying a chassis, which in effect is what is happening - different body onto an existing chassis, as
the compliance plate is on the body

I think it might be counted as a modification??? not sure, although I'll guess most AUVIS inspectors wont be able to tell a 58 body from a 68 body
too easily without looking at the body tags.
I have a 58 body going on a 69 pan so i'm interested as well if someone knows for sure
u may need an engineers certificate which i had to wen i had a 59 on a 68 with disc brakes.
Yes if you change the floor pan you have to change yr redgo details with the RTA
ITs pretty simply you need the reciept for the new chassis your using and also a BLUE slip for the inspection. The blue slip is to varify the
actual number stampoed on chassis
I did it about 12 months ago on a Type 3.
I called the RTA about this, apparently it's just a blue slip, no worries about compliance plate on the body cos apparently a 69 doesn't have to
have one, so that's all cool.
All I have to worry about now is whether I'm gonna have to get a new engineers report for the seats and the sardine top, hoping they'll accept the
originals...
on with the rebuild!
