What battery is the toughest
Andy42 - December 9th, 2004 at 10:39 PM

What battery is the toughest to put in a buggy that will cop a flogging. Does not really bother me how much it is I just want one that will not die at the first site of a set of corregations or as soon as the warranty has run out. Will be starting a subi motor and possibly running a winch for when the shit really hits the fan.

Try Your closest JOHN DEERE agricultural tractor dealer.

John DEERE Make one of the best Batteries available in the USA. the plates are attached at the top & bottom to stop them collapsing...

John Deere "STRONG BOX" Batteries....

Don't know about brands, but a maintenance free battery sounds like the kind of thing you need. They are all fairly similar in construction so just go for a name brand. You could try 4WD shops. I know Exide does one called Orbital. It doesn't have water in it, instead the electrolyte is a gel and the plates are a mesh. These batteries are supposed to be very resistant to vibration, and of course require no refilling.

Then again, Lee's John Deere batteries sound pretty good.

optima batteries are awesome, you can mount them on their side, upside down, they are really good, good for offroading aswell

no battery likes vibration, but after working, installing and maintaining odyssey batteries i vouch for their reliability, as long as you charge em right!

haha, i also used two dead tractor sized ones to as axle stands for the company forklift one day! haha, under the rear end where all the weight is and the fuckers didnt collapse!

hahahah

good luck with it!!

Yeh after a bit of reserch and pricing it does look like I will go the way of the odyssey.

Desert Moose - December 11th, 2004 at 11:54 AM

use an Odyssey, thats what I use in a race car and the old 360cc jeep I have..... the only battery I will take off road

optima are ok but I have had to many warranty problems with them before I started using Odyssey, now I wont go back.........

You'll also want one that has a cold cranking amps rating of at least 500 CCA to handle the Suby motor and occasional use of the winch.

remember what i said about charging them though!!!! its imperative for long life with the odysseys and they dont honour warranty claims if they test the battery and find its been undercharged!! i think it was 14.5 volts or better from memory....its in the booklet you get with the battery, page 9 i think...
