hey all...most excited, i got the type 3 registered on tuesday...:party so happy....because its bright yellow, its now dubbed numerous things at work
such as the "banana", "the yellow beast"..my fav..."big birds ride..."
anywayz, moving from my excitement, i had my first rainy drive today, and realised that i dont have the water flow hoses that are in the fresh air
intake... so what hose do i use? cus i have tried a couple and they alll dont work...also, apart from being wet...my defogger doesnt work...now...how
the hell does this thing work? and are the handles that change vents different i.e is the left same as the right? or different
any help woul be great.
jonno
What year is your type 3?
1971
jonno
Hi well done
With the knobs the right one does the right vent and the leftone dones the left vent for the windscreen.what do you mean ?
"realised that i dont have the water flow hoses that are in the fresh air intake... so what hose do i use? cus i have tried a couple and they alll
dont work."
They don't fit ?
Marc
ok...i dont have both the levers...only one...and its on the rght...when i turn it either way....no ar comes out the holes behind the seats...so i am
wondering if the levers on the left are the same as the right? or have they got a different kind of pulling pitch...
with the hoses...i cant get a hose to fit from the spout, on the fresh air vents near the bonnet, to the hole under the fan box...i have tried the big
clear 20mm tube...and it fits over the hole...but pulls out because it has no flex...what hose does everyone else have?
jonno
anyone?...
someone has to have replaced the hoses in their type 3...
tazz???

Ok Jonno, I'm not sure of what exactly is wrong with your car. Here is run down of what the levers and knobs do.
-Black knobs on dash next to round air vents. Turn them and they let fresh air through from the front. The top knob does the left and the bottom the
right side (or vice versa).
Levers on centre tunnel.
-Left lever pulled up opens the vents under the back seats.
-Right lever up opens the flaps in the back allowing hot air through.
If left lever is missing, it's possible the flaps are closed so no hot air will come out under the back seats. I never open these as I find I need
all the heat I can get up the front.
To test the heaters go for a 10-15 min drive to warm everything up then pull the right lever all the way up. Put your hand over the far right side of
the windscreen at the bottom. You should feel hot air coming out. If not check whether the little flaps in the sill are open. There is a round
black knob on each side just in front of the door, push it down to close the floor vents and force the air to the windshield. Now feel for heat.
Let us know how you go.
Hoses - there are two drain hoses. One from under the grill in front of the windscreen and one from the bottom of the fresh air box. They both go
through the bulkhead and drain under the fuel tank. They are both rubber, but I'll have to measure them.
The R ight hand one on tehg hand brake is for air to teh front and main air heat on
If you lift the Left hand one it provides air HOT to the rear seat area
your 71 should have a lever on the door side firewall that can go up n down
up is air to yr feet HOT n down is air to teh windscreen prioviding all teh ducting is in place
the only levers on my '72 Notch are the ones inbetween the seats, the ones in front of the door don't seem to exist...
and yesterday driving home in the pelting rain i discovered a new leak in the passenger side footwell
yeah mine leaks as well, back windscreen . ill take a shot of my tubes and get the length etc. . better off blocking off the whole 2 grills at the
front.
its about 20mm thick and about 450mm long. ive used some tape around the ends to jam them in.

The levers in front of the door may have been carpeted over by a previous owner, mine were. They are not actually levers they are round black knobs which slide up and down. If the knobs are missing you may not notice them. Also look at the very font of the sill, there should be a vent there.
thanks bitemeoz.....do your hoses slip over the nozzles? or go inside with tape sealing around them?
jonno
yep jammed into the inside. to be honest mate i had the grilles blocked off but took the tape off., now i sit it in a garage when raining and don't take it out in the rain much. easy to say when i only gotta drive it to an undercover car park 5 mins away everyday.
